After a windy night in the fells, I set out on a solo winter camping trip in Oviksfjällen.

I began my solo winter camping adventure by backcountry skiing through the birch woodland towards Lake Gråsjön in Oviksfjällen. The wind was a bit strong, so I searched for a sheltered campsite close to the fells but protected from the gusts. I found a great spot with perfect shelter. As I lay down to sleep, I listened to the sound of the wind howling higher up in the fells, feeling grateful for my cozy and calm spot.

The combination of wind and warm weather had taken its toll on the snow. The fells were almost barren, resembling paper sketches with their minimal snow cover. Despite the lack of snow, the landscape held its own unique charm. Hope for more snow very soon.

The days are short at this time of year, so I didn’t ski for very long. I found a wonderful campsite with breathtaking views towards Trillevallen, Lunndörrsfjällen, Sonfjället, Tossåsfjällen, and Oviksfjällen. The afternoon slowly turned into night as the stars began to sparkle in the firmament, creating a magical atmosphere.

A Glimpse of the Northern Lights
The night was calm, and I was fortunate to witness a glimpse of the Northern Lights. A light green column danced in the sky to the north, leaving me in awe of nature’s beauty. I felt deeply thankful for this serene and extraordinary moment under the night sky.
Time to Head Back
After breakfast, I set out with the hope of catching some beautiful morning light. However, the clouds blocked the pale winter sun, and the magical light on the mountaintops didn’t appear. Still, I was immensely grateful for the wonderful winter weather and the experiences this trip had offered.
